Winter car care tips

Now that the weather is turning cold, it's an ideal time to deal with winter car care tips. That way you will have superb winter driving. Let's look at a few tips:

Lights

One thing that is important for winter driving is being able to see well. The sun is setting earlier as winter approaches, making the need for headlights more important. If your headlights are getting dim, you need to change them sooner rather than later.

Car Battery Maintenance

Your car battery is essential to getting to where you want to go. The cold weather can affect the battery and weaken it. What you can do is volt test the battery before it starts getting really cold to see if it's still in good working order.

Top Off Fluids

There are two liquids you should keep an eye on during the winter. For one thing, you should always keep your gas tank full. You don't want to run out of gas in the winter. It also may help keep water from accumulating and freezing inside your fuel pump. The other fluid is windshield wiper fluid. You'll need to be able to see as you drive when it's snowing. The roads can become quite messy and cause a lot of problems for your windows if you don't have enough wiper fluid.

Invest in Winter Tires

Tires are essential to gripping the ground and getting around. Be sure your tires don't have significant wear and tear. Also, it's best to switch to winter tires. You can have them checked out at a dealer and replaced.

Check the Tire Pressure

Have you ever noticed your tire pressure getting low when the cold weather hits? That's common because the cold makes the tires constrict. As they constrict, they will deflate some and require more air. Check them out regularly to be sure you have enough air.

Keep Your Car Stocked

There's nothing worse than breaking down and not having what you need in the car. That's why it's a good idea to have your vehicle stocked with essential supplies, such as:

• Flares
• Thermal blanket
• Jumper cables
• Multi-tool that includes a knife
• Flashlight and charger or batteries
• First-aid kit
• Cellphone charger
• Shovel
• Cat litter
• Ice scraper and De-icer
