Subaru Legacy & Outback Among Finalists in AJAC 2020

2020 is fast shaping up to be a highly successful year for Subaru. The Outback SUV has already picked up the 'Best Wagon to Buy' title from respected review website The Car Connection, and this has now been followed up with two nominations for one of the most prestigious awards in the country.

Every year, the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC) votes for three finalists in each of 12 vehicle categories covering the whole market. Each of these finalists stands a chance of winning the ultimate titles of Canadian Car of the Year, or Canadian Utility Vehicle of the Year.

For 2020, Subaru has seen their Legacy model make the finals stage of the Best Large Car category, while the Outback cruises into the Best Mid-Sized Vehicle section.

To reach the finals stage, all nominated vehicles needed to pass a ballot of over 1,200 top auto journalists, with submissions accepted throughout the year. Each accepted entry was then stringently tested against the previous year's winners, along with the best of the year's new and updated releases.

All tests were carried out under real-world conditions, on the same roads driven on by Canadians throughout the country.

Here are the main features of the two Subaru models making it through to the final cut.

About the Subaru Legacy

In a world seemingly ruled by crossover SUVs, the Legacy is pitched firmly at those who prefer the sleeker lines and greater economy of a sedan body shape. The 2020 Legacy is available with a choice of standard or turbocharged engines, both of which are coupled with continuously variable automatic transmission and full-time, all-wheel drive.

One of the most impressive parts of the Legacy is its range of interior technology, which includes attractive options such as a fully programmable 11.6" touchscreen, advanced automatic climate control, full Bluetooth connectivity and more.

Couple this tech with high levels of comfort and a well-appointed set of safety features, and it's clear why the Legacy is such an award-winning choice.

About the Subaru Outback

The 2020 Subaru Outback is a rugged yet highly comfortable crossover SUV that's available in two main configurations. The lower-powered versions sport a 2.5L 4-cylinder engine feeding continuously variable transmission and all-wheel drive.

Higher models boast a meatier 2.4L turbo engine which pushes nearly 50% more horsepower through the same drivetrain. This moves the Outback firmly into off-road territory, capable of handling any conditions you throw at it.

But with both powertains, the Outback has gained rave reviews for its interior comforts, great cargo-carrying ability, and most of all, its excellent value for money.

Final Winners to be Announced in Toronto

The winners of each section will be announced at the Montreal International Auto Show in January 2020. The overall title winners are set to be revealed a little later, during the opening ceremony of the Canadian International Auto Show, held in Toronto in February.

If you're in the area but can't make it to the show, you can experience the Subaru Outback or Legacy in Toronto for yourself by arranging a test drive from our offices at 620 Kipling Ave, Etobicoke.
