2026 Subaru Solterra: Now With More Range and Power

Subaru continues its push toward electrification with the debut of the 2026 Solterra, an enhanced version of its fully electric SUV unveiled at the New York Auto Show. With key upgrades in range, power, and onboard technology, this latest iteration is built to meet the growing demand for sustainable mobility in Ontario—without compromising the all-wheel-drive capabilities that define the Subaru brand.

Extended Range and Faster Charging

The headline improvement in the 2026 Solterra is its extended estimated range of approximately 450 km, a more than 25% increase over the previous model. This added range is powered by a 77 kWh lithium-ion battery and a preconditioning system that maintains optimal battery temperature during cold-weather charging—especially useful in harsh Canadian winters.

The vehicle supports fast charging from 10 to 80% in around 35 minutes using a DC fast charger, with a maximum charging speed of about 150 kW. Subaru is also adopting the North American Charging Standard (NACS), giving Solterra drivers access to more than 15,000 Tesla Superchargers across the continent.

More Power, Still Standard All-Wheel Drive

The 2026 Solterra is equipped with a more powerful dual-motor setup delivering 338 horsepower—a significant increase from the previous version. True to Subaru tradition, Symmetrical Full-Time All-Wheel Drive is standard, powered by independent electric motors at the front and rear.

This setup allows for 0–100 km/h acceleration in under 5 seconds, while maintaining a class-leading ground clearance of 210 mm. The Solterra’s off-road capabilities are supported by dual-mode X-MODE and a suite of traction and stability systems designed for challenging terrain.

Refined Interior with Advanced Tech

Inside, the Solterra has been updated for greater comfort and a more modern user experience. A new 14-inch touchscreen, now standard, supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Passengers benefit from 15W wireless charging in the front and USB-C ports in the rear to keep devices powered on the go.

Safety also gets a boost with Subaru’s EyeSight driver-assistance suite, which includes features like:

  • Pre-collision braking
  • Blind spot monitoring
  • Front cross-traffic alert
  • Lane change assist
  • And more

A More Sophisticated Exterior Design

The 2026 Solterra also gets a style refresh, with a new lighting signature, an illuminated Subaru badge, reshaped headlamps, and a redesigned front bumper. The SUV rolls on new 18- and 20-inch wheels, while the revised rear tailgate trim adds a more upscale look. For an urban touch, body-colour wheel arch mouldings are now available, along with optional two-tone paint schemes that enhance the vehicle’s distinctive design.

In Summary

With the 2026 Solterra, Subaru takes a big leap forward in its electric vehicle lineup. Offering more range, faster charging, greater power, and true off-road capability, this upgraded electric SUV is better suited than ever to the realities of the Ontario market. Full pricing and trim details will be released closer to the Solterra’s arrival at Marino’s Fine Cars Subaru later this year.
