2022 Subaru Outback features and specs

Over the past quarter of a century, the Subaru Outback has defined the genre of the adventurous SUV that combines city comfort with genuine off-road capability. The latest 2022 model is now available at our Toronto Subaru dealership, and here are the highlights you can expect from a test drive of this popular Subaru SUV.

What's New for 2022?

The main addition for 2022 is the release of the Wilderness model, which takes the Subaru SUV lineup to new levels of off-road readiness. The new trim upgrades the suspension, increases the ground clearance, and adds a water-repellent interior to take the Outback even deeper into the wilderness than before.

Imposing Exterior

The Outback's long and successful history shows up in its exterior design, combining chunky station wagon elements with modern curves and embellishments. The wheel arches are strikingly large, reflecting the true off-road readiness of this SUV, while the extensively moulded bumpers, spoilers, and other exterior accessories create a sturdy and imposing look with plenty of individual style.

Powertrain and Performance

There are two engine options with the 2022 Subaru Outback. First in line is a 2.5L flat-four gas model making 182 horsepower, powering all-wheel drive through a continuously variable transmission (CVT). Switching to the optional 2.6L turbo mill pushes the ponies up to a satisfying 260 hp, delivering zippy performance that's more than a match for difficult terrains.

Comfortable and Spacious Interior

The Outback's cabin is comfortable and spacious without wasting resources on unnecessary flourishes. Most trims are fitted with comfortable extras including dual-zone climate control, heated front seats, and a power-adjustable driver's seat. Moving up the trims adds extras including ventilated front seats and a heated steering wheel, and also brings power adjustment to the front passenger seat. In terms of cargo, the Outback is a generous provider, with 920L available behind the second row, rising to 2,144L with the rear seats folded down.

Advanced Infotainment Tech

At the base level, the 2022 Subaru Outback is supplied with two 7" infotainment touchscreens stacked one above the other. Every other trim switches to a single, large 11.6" screen set in portrait mode for a much more seamless and refined feel. The larger screen also improves the user experience with speedier touch response, along with a selection of physical knobs and buttons for tactile operation.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, while other advanced features including in-built navigation, wireless device charging, and a Wi-Fi hotspot function are available as extras. And lastly for the infotainment section, the standard audio system can be upgraded to a 12-speaker Harman Kardon rig pumping out 576 watts of premium quality sound.

Safety Features

The 2022 Outback is supplied with an impressive range of active safety features, including forward collision warnings with emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and more.
