2022 Subaru Forester expected to debut in Canada soon

The Subaru Forester is one of the automaker's greatest success stories, combining trail-ready capabilities with family comforts in a convenient compact crossover format. The lineup has received a makeover for the 2022 model year, with the refreshed models expected to arrive in our Toronto dealer location soon. Here's what you can expect from this highly anticipated update of one of Canada's favourite SUVs.

Refreshed Exterior

Subaru has given the 2022 Subaru Forester an exterior sprucing up, with a chunkier profile that accentuates the model's off-road abilities. The new front end is almost pickup-like, with a large grille and imposing LED headlights, while the sleek lines taper backward to give a classically confident SUV profile. For 2022, Subaru has also introduced a new set of paintwork colours, including Brilliant Bronze, Cascade Green Silica, and Autumn Green.

Under the Hood

Every trim on the 2022 Forester lineup is powered by a 2.5L flat-four engine making 182 horsepower and 176lb-ft of torque passed through a continuously variable transmission (CVT) to all-wheel drive as standard. The result is a confident and responsive drive that always feels like there's plenty in reserve during both acceleration and cruising.

Cargo and Towing

The spacious cabin seats up to five in comfort, and boasts a maximum cargo capacity of 2,155L with the rear seats folded. But if you need to haul even greater loads, the Forester provides a towing capacity of up to 680kg, an impressive figure for a compact SUV.

Infotainment and Technology

All models in the 2022 Subaru Forester lineup are fitted with an infotainment touchscreen of either 6.5" or 8" in size, running Subaru's respected Starlink software. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard for smartphone integration, but if you'd rather have dedicated navigation it's an available option on the higher trims. Two USB ports are standard with two more available as extras, while a Wi-Fi hotspot facility is present on all trims except the entry-level.

Active Safety and Driver Assist

The 2021 Forester scored full marks in crash tests by the NHTSA and the IIHS, and while the 2022 refresh has yet to be tested it's unlikely to drop the ball. And just like the previous model, the 2022 Forester is equipped with a generous amount of active safety and driver assist systems provided by the Subaru EyeSight system. However, the camera sensors have been upgraded to provide a wider field of view and greater accuracy for the automatic systems. Key standard and available options include:

- Forward collision warnings with pedestrian detection.

- Automated forward emergency braking, reverse emergency braking.

- Blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts.

- Lane departure warnings and lane keep assistance.

- Adaptive cruise control.

- Adaptive LED headlights plus auto high beams.
