2021 Subaru Outback vs. 2021 Honda CR-V: Choose Utility and Versatility

Subaru has always been at the top of its game when it comes to building vehicles that are both attractive and powerful. The 2021 Subaru Outback has a bold legacy of capabilities that make it much more rugged and able to conquer any type of adventure. It is also geared toward the best AWD system in the industry.

Here, we compare the 2021 Subaru Outback with the 2021 Honda CR-V.

More power and torque in the 2021 Subaru Outback

Engine performance is one of the pillars of Subaru’s success in the automotive industry. The 2021 Subaru Outback is offered with a choice of two, well-calibrated powertrains that will take you further, whether you’re looking for maximum efficiency or ultimate performance.

The base engine is a 2.5-litre flat-four that develops 182 horsepower and 176 lb-ft of torque. This is slightly less power than the CR-V’s only engine choice, but it comes standard with Subaru’s symmetrical all-wheel-drive system. The CR-V’s base model comes in FWD only.

Next up is the Outback’s 2.4-litre turbocharged engine which outputs 260 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque. This engine is also matched with Subaru’s symmetrical AWD system. The CR-V’s only engine choice, the 1.5-litre turbocharged unit, cannot match this performance level.

Moreover, no matter which Outback model you go for, you would benefit from a stronger towing capacity. Outback models equipped with the 2.5-litre engine offer 2,700 pounds of towing capacity, while 2.4-litre turbocharged models can go up to 3,500 pounds. The CR-V is maxed out at only 1,500 pounds.

Finally, Subaru’s precisely calibrated continuously variable transmission comes standard on all Outback models and is far more advanced than the Honda CR-V’s CVT.

More comfort and safety inside the 2021 Subaru Outback

Inside, the Subaru Outback is more comfortable and versatile than the Honda CR-V. Both rivals offer similar cargo volume metrics, but the Outback offers passengers much more comfort and technologies.

For example, the Outback is available with Subaru's exclusive EyeSight advanced driver-assist system which is like a second pair of eyes watching out for you, warning and even aiding your ability to avoid potential danger.

The Outback also comes in the brand new Wilderness model, which is ready for your outdoor adventures thanks to the fact that it’s 40 millimetres wider, has larger wheel-arch cladding along with protection plates underneath. The CR-V doesn’t have an adventure-oriented model.
