2021 Subaru ASCENT Features Performance Price in Toronto

The Subaru Ascent made quite a splash when it was launched in 2017. As a three-row family SUV and the largest vehicle in the Subaru range, it broke new ground for the automaker by seating up to eight passengers in comfort while offering great performance and technology.

There's now an updated 2021 Subaru Ascent model for sale at our Toronto dealership. What are the key features to look out for?

Engine, Performance, and Fuel Economy

All trims in the 2021 Ascent range are supplied with a lively 2.4L flat-4 engine making 260 horsepower and 277lb-ft of torque. When the power is passed to the standard all-wheel drive through a continuously variable transmission, the result is a car that's agile despite its size, capable of 0-100km in around seven seconds.

Considering the car's heft and power, its fuel economy rating is very respectable. The city figure of 11.2L / 100km is admittedly on the higher side, but the compensation is a great highway rating of just 8.7L / 100km, making this a solidly economical vehicle for longer journeys.

Cabin Features

Subaru is well known for providing an upscale interior experience at a mid-market price, and the 2021 Ascent delivers on this reputation.

At the entry level, the 2021 Ascent is fitted with a 6.5" infotainment touchscreen, but all other trims in the lineup upgrade this to an 8" display. Smartphone connectivity through Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth is standard across the range, while navigation and a front-view camera are available options or standard in higher trims.

All Ascent cars have two USB ports in the first and second rows as standard, while the third row also gets this feature on higher trims. The standard six-speaker audio system can be upgraded to a premium 14-speaker Harman Kardon configuration.

As far as space is concerned, the third row is undoubtedly best left to the kids, but the front and middle rows both offer great legroom with 107cm and 98cm respectively.

Cargo and Towing

With all three rows upright, the Ascent can handle 504L of cargo. Fold the third row down and the capacity rises to 1,345L, while with the second row also stowed the maximum capacity is a generous 2,449L.

And if that isn't enough, the Ascent can also haul a maximum of 2,268kg in towing capacity depending on the trim and configuration.

Safety Tech

Safety technology is customarily a strong point for Subaru, and the Ascent is no exception. Key standard features across the range include:

  • Adaptive cruise control.
  • Lane keep assist and departure warning.
  • Forward collision warnings with automatic emergency braking.
  • Adaptive LED headlights.

Higher trims add extra features including automatic reverse braking, blind spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alerts.

2021 Subaru Ascent Pricing

At the entry level, the Ascent Convenience is available for sale starting at an affordable $36,995. The intermediate trims span the price range fairly equally up to the high-end Premier trim which comes in at $51, 495.
